Wie versprochen ein kleiner Einblick in meine Fimoarbeit. Zuerst braucht man eine Nudelmaschine. Es gibt Leute, die sagen, das wäre nicht nötig - man könne ja auch das Fimo ausrollen - aber ich bin Wissenschaftler und brauche wiederholbare Ergebnisse. Eine Nudelmaschine hat verschiedene Stärken, man ist damit sehr schnell und man bekommt auch das Fimo nach etwas vorkneten schneller warm. Außerdem kann man damit sehr leicht Farbübergänge machen. Wenn man nun seine Nudelmaschine hat, macht man sich einen Cane. Ein Cane ist eine Rolle aus Fimo aus der man Scheiben abschneiden kann, die alle so ziemlich das gleiche Muster haben. Den Cane von gestern habe ich nach der
brain cane Anleitung gemacht und der Cane von der Häkelnadel heißt
bullseye cane. Die Canes habe ich dann in die Gefriertruhe gelegt, damit ich später möglichst runde Scheiben abschneiden kann. Dann habe ich etwas Restfimo genommen und daraus einen Griff an die Häkelnadel gebastelt. Etwas kleiner, als ich den späteren Griff tatsächlich haben wollte.
As promised a small insight in my work with polymer clay. First of all you need a pasta machine. There are people who say this is not necessary but since I'm a scientist I need repeatable results. A pasta machine has different sizes, you are very fast and you can condition the polymer clay faster. Furthermore you can make blends from one colour to another very easily. When you have your pasta machine make a cane. A cane is a roll of polymer clay from which you can cut slices which will all have almost the same pattern. The cane from yesterday's orifice hook is a brain cane and the cane from today's crochet hook is a bullseye cane. I put the canes in the freezer so that I'll be able to cut preferably round slices. Then I took some leftover polymer clay and built a handle around the crochet hook. I made it a tad smaller as I wanted the actual handle.Die Oberfläche habe ich versucht so glatt wie möglich zu bekommen. Dann habe ich ein paar Scheiben von meinem Cane abgeschnitten.
I tried to keep the surface as smooth as possible. Then I cut a few slices off my cane.Diese Scheiben kann man dann auf den Griff drücken. Hier versucht man am besten alle Löcher an den Übergängen weg zu kneten. Ich habe das nicht überall geschafft, aber ich über ja auch noch. Und um die spätere Arbeit beim Schleifen zu erleichtern auch hier wieder die Oberfläche so gleichmäßig wie möglich machen.
These sliced you can put onto your handle. Try to close all holes and spaces between the slices. I didn't make it at all spaces but I'm still a beginner. To make sanding more easier try to make a smooth surface again.Jetzt noch die Häkelnadel in den Ofen und nach Anleitung auf der Verpackung backen. Danach muss man viel schleifen. Ich habe mich dabei von 180 (nur das Grobe - nicht zu lang) bis auf 1000 hochgearbeitet (feiner hatte ich leider nicht und hier habe ich sehr lang geschliffen). Außerdem habe ich nass geschliffen in unserem Waschbecken. Dazu braucht es natürlich Nasschleifpapier. Dann habe ich meinen Dremel geholt und an ihm zehn 2,5cm x 2,5cm große Jeansstücke befestigt. Damit lässt sich sowas super polieren sogar bis auf Hochglanz. Der Tropfen, den man zwichen Nadel und Fimo sehen kann ist übrigens Epoxy, damit auch alles hält.
Bake the crochet hook as stated in the instructions. After that you have to sand. I started with 180 (just rought - not too long) and used all sandpapers up to 1000 (I didn't had a finer one and I sanded very long with this one). In additon I wet-sanded in our sink. For this you need special wet-sanding paper of course. Then I took my Dremel and put ten 1" x 1" jeans pieced onto it and buffered the whole thing. You can make it super shiny with buffering. By the way the drop you can see between hook and polymer clay is Epoxy.
